After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program

The After School Education and Safety (ASES) Program will open the first day of school and operates every school day through the last day of school. To comply with State and Federal grant requirements the ASES Program will commences immediately upon the conclusion of the regular school day and operates a minimum of 15 hours per week and at least until 6:00 PM on every regular school day. We pride ourselves in creating a safe, engaging, positive setting for our students. To get the most out of their time in the program, students need to attend each day and stay for the entire program.

Program Guidelines

Participation in the program is at NO CHARGE to the family. According to AB1567, effective as of July 1, 2017, after school program priority enrollment to students are given to those that are identified by the program as homeless and foster youth, long-term English learners, At-Risk (latchkey) and low income. However, these students still have to comply with the state guidelines of the program. Also, there are other target groups and criteria that may vary depending on the need of the school site and their community. Our ASES program is currently open to 1st- 6th Grade.

The ASES Program is an extension of the regular school day; however, it should not be a repeat of it. ASES provides a safe physical and emotional environment that offers and academic and enrichment elements.

An educational and literacy element must provide an opportunity for homework assistance and intervention designed to help students meet state standards in one or more of the following core academic subjects: reading/language arts, mathematics, history and social studies, or science. A broad range of activities may be implemented based on local student needs and interests.

The educational enrichment element must offer an array of additional services, programs, and activities that reinforce and complement the school’s academic program. Educational enrichment may include but is not limited to, positive youth development strategies, recreation and prevention activities. Such activities might involve the visual and performing arts, music, physical activity, health/nutrition promotion, and general recreation; career awareness and work preparation activities; community service-learning; and other youth development activities based on student needs and interests.  Enrichment activities may be designed to enhance the core curriculum.

Students enrolled in the ASES Program are expected to attend every day. If a student has excessive unexcused absences and/or early releases he/she will be dropped from the program as our funding is reliant on both enrollment and attendance.

Participation in the ASES Program is a PRIVILEGE. Disruptive or disrespectful behavior toward other students and/or staff is reason for dismissal.

Parent MUST attend an ASES Parent Meeting in order for their child(ren) to be eligible for enrollment into ASES for the 2022-2023 school year.

Any parent who is interested in enrolling their child in the ASES program may contact their ASES Site Coordinator. Application submission and/or previous enrollment does not guarantee placement in the ASES program. Students may not start program until contacted by the ASES Site Coordinator.
